Eco-congregation and our journey towards it
Morningside United Church has a large and active group of members struggling to discover how we might be more faithful stewards of Creation. As part of this we are investigating how we can become an Eco-congregation - one of the more than 200 congregations in Scotland who have already taken this step. The Church of Scotland decided at its General Assembly in May to : Instruct Presbyteries, in association with the Church and
Society Council, to produce a plan for each congregation in their
bounds, setting out how they will measure energy consumption in their
church buildings, ascertain their carbon footprint and achieve a
year-on-year reduction of 5% of their carbon footprint using the
Eco-Congregation Scotland carbon footprint module; and instruct the
Church and Society Council, in consultation with the General Trustees,
to report to the General Assembly of 2010 on the implementation of this
instruction. This is the strongest language the General Assembly ever uses - and as a congregation we have to prepare to respond! Read the Eco-congregation blog - click here Read the MUC Audit Report - click here
